Taylor Swift has been paying homage to hometown artists in each city on her Speak Now tour, and on July 28, the 21-year-old performed an acoustic cover of Eminem‘s ‘Lose Yourself’ in Grand Rapids, Mich.
In a fan video, the country star is shown launching into the instantly recognizable first notes of the rapper’s 2002 smash single, and then gently uttering the spoken-word intro of the song to the audience at the Van Andel Arena. As soon as she kicks off the first verse, the crowd beings to sing along.
With a smile on her face, Swift puts her melodic flair on the chorus of the Oscar-winning tune, singing the lines that were made famous by Detroit native and his movie ’8 Mile.’ After the high moment, however, the singer segued into a cover of Uncle Kracker’s ‘Smile,’ a choice that ended up dissipating the energy from the Eminem cover.
