The 317: Second Time An “American Idol” Champ Has Done This

Kelly Clarkson is set to perform the National Anthem before Sunday’s Super Bowl in Indianapolis, marking the second time an “American Idol” champ has helped kick off a big game between the Giants and the Patriots. Season six winner Jordin Sparks took on “The Star Spangled Banner” back in 2008, before New York went on to beat New England in Super Bowl 42. Clarkson is likely hoping her rendition will follow in the footsteps of Sparks’ performance rather than last year’s anthem singer, Christina Aguilera, who infamously flubbed a line in the song.

Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert are also scheduled to perform “America the Beautiful” before Super Bowl 46, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Eastern. NBC is set to cover the event and all the pre-game festivities starting at 2:00 p.m. Eastern.

‘Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl Working TV Show

Dave Grohl has become known as a rock star with a sense of humor, and now he’s hoping to put those comedy chops into a new show for FX. According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” the Foo Fighters frontman has teamed up with comedian Dana Gould on the project, which would center around a rock band on the verge of either making it big or breaking up. Grohl is set to executive produce the untitled half-hour show, although there’s still no word if he’ll also make appearances as an actor or contribute to the soundtrack.

This marks the second project FX has started work on with a rock influence. The network is also developing the drama “Scar Tissue” with Red Hot Chili Peppers’ frontman Anthony Kiedis.

Chris Brown Named World’s Worst-Dressed Man By “GQ”

Chris Brown’s eye for fashion could apparently use a trip to the optometrist. That’s the opinion of “GQ” U.K. The British mag has named the R&B superstar the worst-dressed man in the world. “GQ” notes that for someone who likes to boast about how much money he has, Brown “seems utterly adverse to investing in tailoring.” The publication goes on to note that Chris combines “the worst excesses of XXL sizing with a penchant for deeply unflattering costumes.” “GQ” was much nicer to Tinie Tempah, naming the British rapper their best-dressed man. “GQ” says that while they don’t like to “blow our own trumpet too much,” they find it interesting that the well-dressed Tinie Tempah also resides in the U.K.

Video: UFO Found In Baltic Sea?

A team of shipwreck hunters that found a strange circular object on the floor of the Baltic Sea in 2011 now says they have discovered visual evidence of a second “disc-like shape” some 200 meters from the original find, CNN reports.

Peter Lindberg, who leads the group, previously joked to CNN that the first object they found 300 feet below the surface might be an unidentified flying object.

When the object, which has a diameter of 195 feet, was first discovered in June of last year, many believers thought it was a wrecked UFO that had crashed onto the seafloor and left behind a path of destruction measuring some 900 feet, according to News.com.au.

CNN explains how the team discovered the objects:

The imaging technique involves pulling a sonar “towfish” — that essentially looks sideways underwater — behind a boat, where it creates sound echoes to map the sea floor below.
The team is waiting until the spring to further investigate their intriguing discovery.

According to Yahoo News, the Baltic Sea is a hotbed for salvaged items.

“Right now, we know about 20,000 objects, mostly shipwrecks, in the Baltic Sea. But I think there may be more than 100,000,” sonar expert Ardreas Olsson told Yahoo News. “I’m not sure what you will see when you go down. But I’m excited. It’s going to be interesting to see what it is.”

President’s 2005 Chrysler On Auction Block

If you think the price for Obamacare is too high, wait until you see what they want for the “Obamacar.”

A car that once belonged to Barack Obama — a 2005 Chrysler 300C — is now on the auction block, and the minimum bid is $1 million.

The president put nearly 19,000 miles on it before trading it in for a more fuel-efficient 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid.

Now, the current owner, Illinois resident Tim O’Boyle,is selling the sedan on eBay and is hoping to hit the jackpot when the auction ends at 11:51 p.m. EST on Feb. 1.

The current Kelley Blue Book worth of the car is around $14,346, but Time.com says vehicles of this type and condition have sold for as much as $19,142.

Still, $1 million is a steep price in any kind of economy and, so far, there have been no bids, and some memorabilia experts don’t expect any.

Brian Chanes of Profiles In History, a Los Angeles-based specialist in historical artifacts, says the car might be worth $1 million if something historical happened in it, but doubts it’s worth that much except to a true Obama fan.

“I’d say $100,000 is a fairer bet if the person selling it hopes to profit,” Chanes told HuffPost Weird News. “If all the proceeds were going to charity, people are more liberal about throwing money at something.”

However, Lisa Czibor, who is representing O’Boyle in the sale, believes the fact the car was driven by a future president justifies the high price tag, especially since other cars driven by world leaders have also sold for high prices. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s 1977 Peugeot sold for $2.5 million, Politico.com reported.

Although Chanes doubts the “Obamacar” is worth a million, he does believe “Obamarabilia” will be valuable in coming decades because of his unique position in American history as the first African-American president.

“Oh yeah, and this is true, regardless of what your politics are,” he said.
