In its first season, Glee featured some weirdly eclectic song choices: Remember “Thong Song” and “Sweet Caroline” in the “Mash-Up” episode? But in the season-two premiere on September 21st, the show will outdo itself. Rolling Stone has learned that the first episode will feature renditions of Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind,” Lady Gaga’s “Telephone,” Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire,” and Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” In true Gleek fashion, the cast will also perform two vintage Broadway musical standards — “What I Did for Love” from A Chorus Line and “Getting to Know You” from The King and I — as well as “Listen” from the film version of Dreamgirls.

According to the series’ music supervisor, P.J. Bloom, the episode’s plot paved the way for the Jay-Z track: Having placed at the Regional competition in last season’s finale, New Directions will travel to New York for the Nationals. “So we needed a New York song,” explains Bloom. He also says that the use of a second Gaga song — after “Bad Romance” in the previous season — is all due to co-creator Ryan Murphy. “Ryan’s a huge Lady Gaga fan,” Bloom says. “I suspect we’re going to continue to look to her to be part of the show.”

The following week will see the premiere of the show’s all-Britney Spears episode, which will include performances of five Spears songs — although for now, no one’s saying which ones. Bloom is also promising an “additional recording” for the episode, but is mum on details. (We’re already picturing Spears and Matthew Morrison doing a Britney-and-Justin-style duet, but maybe that’s just us.) In other Glee music news: Another soundtrack album could arrive as early as October, and Morrison is wrapping up his solo debut, due on Mercury Records early in 2011.

Lady GaGa reportedly gave Beyoncé a diamond whip and lingerie for her 29th birthday. GaGa apparently wanted to give the RNB star “something special” as the pair have remained friends since recording ‘Telephone’ together last year. A source told The Sun: “The whip was made out of hundreds of diamonds and leather. “When Beyoncé received it she squealed with excitement. The dressing room was decorated with balloons and banners.” GaGa allegedly presented Beyoncé with the whip and matching underwear in Jay-Z’s dressing room, before singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to her. They then shared a bottle of champagne together to celebrate.

Jay-Z out of pocketed $20,000,000 for this island described as a “tropical paradise”. No other details are available as far as housing on the island goes but how do you top that as far as giving gifts goes?

If you’re a Justin Bieber fan, New York City’s Madison Square Garden gig last night was the one you did not want to miss. The milk enthusiast kicked off his show by bringing out his heroes, cruisin’ crooners Boyz II Men, for a performance of their 1994 hit “On Bended Knee.” But that was just the beginning, as throughout the evening he also paired up on stage with Sean Kingston, Usher, Miley Cyrus, Jaden Smith and Ludacris. Law enforcement sources tell us L.A. County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over the multi-platinum selling rapper and his wife in a Maybach on Sunset Boulevard around 10:18PM (last night). Deputies say they smelled marijuana. When searching the vehicle cops found a controlled substance. Law enforcement sources tell us the controlled substance was not cocaine, but rather the class of controlled substance that triggered the arrest includes methamphetamines and ecstasy. The couple just got married on July 30 in Miami, and T.I. — real name Clifford Harris Jr. — is on probation after doing seven months in prison on federal weapons charges. Law enforcement sources say both T.I. and Tameka were booked on felony possession of a controlled substance. The were released on 10,000 bail
