It doesn’t need to be anything too strenuous, doing the gardening, going for a brisk walk or a swim, all count” Getting active, the report says, can help people overcome the effects of cancer and its treatments, such as fatigue and weight gain.

Back on Dec. 16, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommended revoking approval of the drug to fight breast cancer, citing the medication’s poor performance in follow-up studies and its potential for serious side effects.

The drug’s maker, Genentech, now owned by the pharmaceutical giant Roche, was given the chance to appeal the FDA recommendation and present additional evidence. That appeal will be the focus of the hearing and, according to published reports, will involve Genentech urging one more clinical trial before any government action on the drug.

The FDA’s unusual step of scheduling another hearing on the drug underscores the difficulty of withdrawing approval of a cancer medication.

1- Get wired

It’s no coincidence that most cell phones come with a wired ear piece.

A wired headset will automatically decrease your radiation exposure because the phone is away from the body. Every inch you can get away from the body reductes the amount of radiation you are absorbing.

A wired headset may still transmit radiation through the wire – but it is a very low level. If that is a concern, you can buy a ferrite bead for just a few bucks at most electronic stores. It attaches to the wire and it absorbs any radiation traveling through the wire, reducing how much enters your body.

2-Use the speakerphone

This could get quite annoying, if you’re in a public place.  But experts say that using the speakerphone function is helpful because you’re keeping the phone away from your brain.  Every inch you can get the phone away from your body reduces the radiation.  For example, holding out the cell phone by two inches drops the radiation by a factor of four,  Magda Havas, an associate professor with the Institute for Health Studies at Trent University in Ontario, Canada, had told CNN.

3-Don’t wear Bluetooth all the time

Bluetooth wireless earpieces will expose you to some radiation. However, it would be much less radiation than a cell phone.

The problem is that most people wear their Bluetooth all the time. And this isn’t a good look on anyone.

If you use a Bluetooth device, switch it from ear to ear so you don’t have too much exposure on one side. Just take it out of your ear when you aren’t on the phone.

Johnson and Johnson have been having sever issues with recalls lately as has been written about in our articles  Johnson & Johnson Issue Recall On Epilepsy Medicine and Another Recall Of Tylenol® Products. Now comes word about their contraceptives.
The following statement was given by Chris Kahlenborn, MD, on April 28, 2011 in  Trenton, NJ

“Good Morning.  Thank you for the opportunity to address all of you today.  Each year, over 200,000 women develop invasive breast cancer in the United States.  In regard to Johnson and Johnson, it is good to affirm a resolution that promises not to discriminate against hiring women who have developed breast cancer; but it is not enough.  This company has a unique opportunity to be a leader against the fight against breast cancer by working to prevent it.

In October, 2006, four researchers, including myself, published a meta-analysis in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings on the subject of oral contraceptives and pre-menopausal breast cancer (1).  After reviewing all of the world’s data, we found that 21 out of 23 studies showed an increased risk of developing invasive premenopausal breast cancer if women took oral contraceptives prior to the birth of their first child, which is when most women take them.  These women incurred a 44% increased risk, which rose to 52% if they took them for at least 4 years prior to the birth of their first child.  Both of these results were significant at the 99% confidence interval-the highest standard used in research.  In addition we noted that the World Health Organization had recently classified oral contraceptives as a Group I carcinogen-the most dangerous type known to humankind.”

Recently our study was quoted in the Frontiers of Medicine in China (3) whose researchers performed their own meta-analysis and found that women who took oral contraceptives sustained a 112% increased risk in developing breast cancer.  In addition, a recent collaborative study co-authored by investigators from the National Cancer Institute, the Hutchinson Cancer Center and the University of Washington cited our meta-analysis and also noted significant breast cancer risk with oral contraceptives .

In conclusion, I note that there are three good reasons for you to consider the alternative of ceasing all hormonal contraceptive sales while specifically and publicly citing the breast cancer risk:

1)    Limitation of bad press.  Instead of picking up Bloomberg Businessweek and cringing you would be a step ahead of the curve and your competitors and would be seen as a leader.  People want to see Johnson and Johnson as a company that makes safe products like your shampoo-not products that are becoming controversial, such as oral contraceptives.

2)    Limitation of future lawsuits: Suits against the thrombotic potential of oral contraceptives are increasing and the breast cancer link may well be the next frontier.

3)    It is the right thing to do.   I ask the executives and board members of Johnson and Johnson to simply ask yourselves one question:  knowing what you know today, would you be comfortable if your wife or daughter were to take Johnson and Johnson’s hormonal contraceptive pills?

The “Freedom” chanteuse shot down rampart reports that she had been stricken with pancreatic cancer, saying, “I don’t know where ‘pancreatic cancer’ came from.

Douglas, who celebrated his 66th birthday on September 25th, confirmed his diagnosis of stage four throat cancer on “The Late Show With David Letterman” in late August.  On the night of his Letterman interview, the actor said he was already undergoing an aggressive battle with the disease.

Keys says she was touched when she visited Tavarez on July 2 in the Long Island hospital where she receives daily chemotherapy treatments.

“For her, the sky is the limit, but now she’s fighting for her life,” the mom-to-be, who is asking fans to become donors, tells PEOPLE.

Keys hopes Tavarez and other patients like her to have the chance to “grow up to live their dreams.”

Rihanna seconds that sentiment. “[Tavarez] should be performing on Broadway, but is confined to her bed, fighting for her life,” Rihanna tells PEOPLE. “She needs to find a bone marrow donor to survive. I urge all my fans to register [as donors]. It’s the most beautiful thing someone could do, to give the gift of life.”
